“Prospects in the City’s 2011 Summer School was a great success! Students from around the country took part in five days of City walks focusing on three competitive career areas, finance, law and media. Visits and presentations from some of the most high profile institutions in the City enabled students to gain insights into some of these hard to access areas.
Organisations included Lloyds of London, Russell Jones and Walker solicitors and the British Banking Association along with universities and media agencies.
Participants heard from many speakers, on routes into careers, opportunities and jobs, Higher Education and life in the City in general. They took part in sessions on CV and personal statement writing and interviewing techniques. The ‘Risk’ Game, lead by the Chartered Insitiute of Insurers helped develop their awareness of insurance and how it affects the City.
“The topics covered opened my view towards what careers there actually are. The speakers were very motivational and brought across strong messages to take with us” Naz Ahmed, yr 10 student, Bridge Academy,Hackney,London.
““I really enjoyed it and I think it will of great benefit to me in the future” Sarah Woodward, Cheltenham Ladies College, Cheltenham.
“Patrick’s week gave him a taster not only of the career options of his visits but also the general atmosphere of the city and an experience of commuting. He not only gained a much better insight into what type of career path he may like to follow but also a very definite idea of careers he did not find attractive to him. Before his prospects week he had not got any idea of which field he would like to aim for” Sue McGrath, parent, St George’s College Surrey.
